As of today, Classic Blueprints are deprecated. This means new Classic Blueprints can no longer be created—effective immediately for new tenants, and starting April 16 for existing ones.

Existing Classic Blueprints will continue to work, remain editable, and be supported through the end of calendar year 2025.

We introduced Assignment Maps last year to provide greater flexibility when configuring devices in Kandji. With features like:

  • The ability to reuse Library Items multiple times with different rules
  • Nested if/then logic for targeted scoping
  • Built-in priority handling for conflicting settings
  • A powerful device lookup tool to trace scoping logic

Assignment Maps are a more advanced and adaptable type of Blueprint, and are the future of scoping.

However, we recognize that some customers prefer a simpler, group-like structure. We’ve enhanced Assignment Maps to support these workflows—including a default “simplified view” where conditional logic is hidden until it’s needed.

We’ve also brought key features from Classic Blueprints into Assignment Maps:

  • Direct assignment of Library Items onto a Map from Library Items themselves
  • The ability to “one-off” exclude devices from a Library Item on a Map for troubleshooting purposes
  • Customizable icons and colors
  • Full parity/compatibility in Blueprint enterprise API request structures for simplified Maps

What’s next: In the coming months, Classic Blueprints without Assignment Rules will automatically converted to simplified Assignment Maps—no action is needed.

Classic Blueprints that do include Assignment Rules, will need to be migrated manually before the end of calendar year 2025.

Moving to Assignment Maps is a great opportunity to reevaluate older logic used in existing rules. The Blueprint filter in the Library Item bank in Assignment Maps, along with multi-select and drag-and-drop functionality, make migration easier than ever.
